Mevacor Description

Indications:
Primary hypercholesterolemia with high concentrations of LDL IIa and IIb type (in case of ineffectiveness of diet therapy in patients with increased risk of coronary atherosclerosis), combined hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia, correction of the lipid profile in patients with uncomplicated diabetes type 1 and 2, hyperlipoproteinemia (resistant to correction of a special diet and exercise), atherosclerosis.

Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity, acute liver diseases, increased activity of liver transaminases (unknown etiology), evident liver impairment, severe general condition of a patient, pregnancy, lactation, children's age (safety and efficacy is not established).
With care. Liver diseases (in past history), chronic alcoholism, organ transplantation, concomitant immunosuppressive therapy, chronic renal failure, urgent surgical manipulations (including dental).

Side effects:
- Digestive system: heartburn, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, meteorism, dry mouth, taste disturbance, loss of appetite, gastralgia, cholestatic jaundice, abnormal liver function, increased activity of liver transaminases, hepatitis, acute pancreatitis.
- Nervous system: dizziness, headache, fatigue, insomnia, muscle cramps, paresthesia, mental disorders.
- Musculoskeletal system: myalgia, myositis, myopathy, rhabdomyolysis (in patients receiving simultaneously cyclosporine, gemfibrozil or nicotinic acid), arthralgia.
- Blood-forming organs: hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia.
- Sensory organs: a mist before the eyes, lenticular opacity, cataract, optic nerve atrophy.
Laboratory indicators: increased activity of liver transaminases, increased activity of creatine phosphokinase.
- Allergic reactions: urticaria, angioedema, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), skin rash, itching.
- Other: reduced potency, acute renal failure (caused by rhabdomyolysis), chest pain, palpitation.

Special instructions:

Mevacor is not applies in children.

Women of childbearing age may take Mevacor only if the probability of pregnancy is minimal. If a woman becomes pregnant during treatment with Mevacor, she should stop taking the drug immediately and contact the doctor.
