Lipitor Description

Lipitor is used to reduce blood level of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), total cholesterol, triglycerides (other kind of fat) and apolipoprotein B (protein needed to produce cholesterol). Lipitor is also used to increase blood level of HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol). This is necessary to reduce the risk of hardening of the arteries that can lead to heart attack, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.

Method of application of Lipitor

• Take Lipitor exactly as directed by your doctor.
• Take each dose with a full glass of water.
• Lipitor can be taken with meals or on an empty stomach.
• As a rule, lipitor is taken once a day. Follow your doctor's instructions. Take the medicine every day at one and the same time.
• Your doctor may recommend you to examine the function of the liver and undergo a blood test before starting treatment with Lipitor, on the twelfth week of the course, with each increase in dosing and then periodically (every 6 months). Depending on the results, the physician will determine the appropriate intensity of medical supervision.
• Lipitor may interact with grapefruit or grapefruit juice. The interaction can lead to dangerous consequences. Discuss with your doctor the use of grapefruit and grapefruit juice. Do not increase or decrease the content of grapefruit products in your diet without consulting your doctor.
• Stick to a diet low in fat and cholesterol. To achieve the beneficial effect of the drug, avoid foods high in fat and cholesterol.
• Regular use of Lipitor is necessary to achieve the maximum beneficial impact.
• Do not stop taking Lipitor without talking to your doctor. Lipitor is intended for long-term use for treatment of high cholesterol.
• Your doctor may recommend you to undergo a blood test or other medical examinations in the course of drug treatment to identify progress and side manifestations.
• Store the medication at room temperature in a cool dry place.
