Evista Description
Evista is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Supporting skeletal system and slowing the loss it helps reduce the risk of bone fractures. This drug is different from hormones (estrogen and progestin). The principle of operation of this drug is in the action of estrogen (as a selective modulator - estrogen receptor, or serm) in some parts of the body. Evista helps preserve bone mass, but it does not affect the breast and uterus, as estrogen, or relieves symptoms of menopause such as flushes. This medication is not recommended for use in women before menopause. It should not be used by children.
Side effects:
You may experience: flushes, sweating, muscle cramps (legs). Inform your doctor in case of worsening or exacerbation of any adverse effects. Many people using this medication do not have side effects. Evista can sometimes cause serious blood clots in the legs, lungs, or eyes. If you have such an unusual but serious side effects as trouble breathing, chest pain, swelling / pain of the legs, vision changes consult your doctor immediately.
Precautions:
Tell your doctor if you have an allergic reaction. Inform your doctor if you have problems such as history of blood clots (e.g., pulmonary embolism, deep venous thrombosis, retinal vein thrombosis). Lack of exercise can increase the risk of blood clots. Your doctor will instruct you how to stop taking this medicine for at least 3 days before surgery or during a long period of inactivity (e.g., bedrest). Do not start taking Evista as long as you do not become active again. Your doctor should know about all your medical problems, especially: liver disease, heart failure, cancer, high blood cholesterol, a history of triglycerides in connection with estrogen treatment. This drug is prohibited during pregnancy because it may harm the unborn child. If you become pregnant or think that you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. It is not known whether this drug penetrates into breast milk. Breast-feeding in course of usage of Evista is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
