Allegra (Fexofenadine) Description

Allegra (Fexofenadine) is designed to eliminate the symptoms of allergic diseases including allergic rhinitis and urticaria. It has no sedative effect, is highly effective and has a rapid onset of action. Allegra (Fexofenadine) has been thoroughly investigated in clinical trials using the most modern methodologies.

Special caution

Pregnancy and lactation

Adequate and well controlled studies of the drug on women during lactation have not been conducted. It is necessary to be careful in appointing a drug to women who are breastfeeding, or the issue of termination of breastfeeding should be solved on the ground that Allegra (Fexofenadine) is able to penetrate into breast milk.

Use of the drug during pregnancy is possible only in cases when the foreseeable benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risk to the fetus.

Appropriate security measures of application

Allegra (Fexofenadine) should be used with caution in patients with advanced age and with liver or kidney diseases on the basis of lack of sufficient experience with Allegra (Fexofenadine) for patients of these groups.

Side effects of Allegra (Fexofenadine)

During clinical trials, the most frequently observed side effects include:
• CNS: headache, drowsiness, dizziness and fatigue;
• gastrointestinal tract: nausea.
• respiratory system: nasopharyngitis, infection of upper respiratory tract.

Allegra (Fexofenadine) contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug components, children under 12 years.

Allegra (Fexofenadine) interaction

With the simultaneous application of Allegra (Fexofenadine) with other drugs their interaction is possibly (together with erythromycin or ketoconazole, the concentration of Allegra (Fexofenadine) in plasma is increased by 2-3 times).

Allegra (Fexofenadine) is not biotransformed in the liver and because of that does not interact with other drugs that are metabolized by the liver.

In case of application of antacid (almagel and other medications that contain aluminum or magnesium) 15 minutes before applying Allegra (Fexofenadine) a decrease of its bioavailability is observed. It is therefore recommended that the interval between applications of Allegra (Fexofenadine) and an antacid should be 2 hours.

Allegra (Fexofenadine) overdose
In case of an overdose of Allegra (Fexofenadine), the standard measures (gastric lavage) for excretion should be taken. Symptomatic and supportive therapy is recommended. Hemodialysis is not effective for removing Allegra (Fexofenadine) from the blood.
